Lars Onsager Professor 2006

Lars Onsager (1903-1976) was born in Oslo, Ch.E. degree from Norges Tekniske Høiskole, Trondheim, in 1925. He emigrated to the USA in 1928 and became an American citizen in 1945. He received the 1968 Nobel Prize in Chemistry for work done in 1931 on irreversible thermodynamics.

An annual funding is available for The Lars Onsager Professorship. The recipient is to spend 3-6 months at NTNU to collaborate with scientists here.

The Lars Onsager Professor for 2006 has been awarded to Professor John R. Klauder, Departments of Physics and Mathematics, University of Florida.
He will visit the Department of Physics, NTNU.

John Klauder was born on January 24th 1932 and received his Ph.D. from Princeton University, where he was a student of John A. Wheeler. As former head of the Theoretical Physics and Solid State Spectroscopy Departments of Bell Telephone Laboratories, he has been a visiting professor at Rutgers University, Syracuse University and the University of Bern.

Since 1988, John Klauder has been a Professor of Physics and Mathematics at the University of Florida. He has also served on the Physics Advisory Panel of the National Science Foundation and been Editor of the Journal of Mathematical Physics, President of the International Association of Mathematical Physics, Associate Secretary-General of the International Union of Pure and Applied Physics, and has authored over 200 articles published in international journals.

 
Since 1988 John Klauder is Professor of Physics and Mathematics at the University of Florida.
